UC RUSAL Agrees to Acquire 35% of Alpart

Carter Ledyard assisted our client UC RUSAL, the world’s largest aluminium producer, in entering into an agreement to acquire an additional 35% stake in Alumina Partners of Jamaica (“Alpart”) from Norway’s Norsk Hydro ASA. Alpart owns a large production complex in Jamaica which uses its own bauxite mines to supply its alumina production. Following completion of the $46 million transaction, which is expected to close in October 2011, Alpart will be 100% owned by UC RUSAL.

The Carter Ledyard team consisted of partners Donald J. Kennedy and Austin D. Keyes and associates Bhavna Agnihotri and Alison Powers Herman. CL&M and UC RUSAL were assisted on Norwegian law matters by Bugge, Arentz-Hansen & Rasmussen based in Oslo and on Jamaican law matters by Myers, Fletcher & Gordon based in Kingston.
