NEW YORK, October 27, 2008– Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP (www.clm.com) is pleased to announce that Morris N. Simkin has joined the firm as Counsel effective October 1st. Mr. Simkin will continue his practice in corporate, securities and securities regulation in the firm’s Corporate Department and will work from the New York office, located on Wall Street. He was previously a partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman.

Morris Simkin’s practice will continue to focus on assisting broker-dealers, investment advisers, hedge funds and mutual funds by providing a full range of legal services, from formation and registration through operations and compliance. He will also counsel brokers and banks on securities operations, risk management, financing, capitalization and liquidity, including the use of derivatives, and innovative financing products. Mr. Simkin has a broad range of transactional experience, including public offerings; private placements; debt financings; asset securitizations; debt restructurings; mergers, acquisitions and dispositions; tender offers, and going private.
Early in his career, Mr. Simkin served as Special Counsel to the Division of Enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also served on the SEC task force that oversaw the formation of the entities which evolved into the Depository Trust Company and the National Securities Clearing Corporation.
He has written extensively on securities law and is an active member of the American Bar Association, Committee on Federal Regulation of Securities and the Committee on Developments in Investment Services. As a member of the New York State Bar Association, he serves on the Committee on Securities Regulation and Committee on Banking Law.
Mr. Simkin earned a B.A., with honors, from Oberlin College in 1963 and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1966. He is admitted to practice in New York and Pennsylvania and before the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
