NEW YORK, NY (February 1, 2012) – Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP ( is pleased to announce that Gerald W. Griffin and Ethan L. Silver have been promoted to partner and Matthew D. Dunn to counsel, effective January 1, 2012.   Messrs. Griffin and Silver were formerly counsel and Mr. Dunn associate of the firm.

Gerald Griffin is a member of Carter Ledyard’s Litigation Department. Gerry’s practice focuses primarily on general commercial litigation/white collar defense. He represents domestic and foreign corporations in federal and state courts and in domestic and international arbitrations and mediations, with experience in securities, employment and general commercial matters. He also represents individuals in connection with civil and criminal investigations of alleged violations of federal and state securities and tax laws. Gerry graduated from Skidmore College with a B.A. in 1991. He received his J.D.from Brooklyn Law School in 1998. 
Ethan L. Silver is a member of Carter Ledyard’s Corporate Department. His practice focuses primarily on advising financial institution clients, specifically broker-dealers and investment advisers, on regulatory, compliance, enforcement, and examination issues related to federal and state securities laws and the rules of various self regulatory organizations, including FINRA. He is a member of SIFMA Compliance and Legal Division. Prior to joining Carter Ledyard, Ethan was Senior Counsel, Division of Enforcement, at the New York Stock Exchange, 2005-2007, and enforcement attorney at the New Jersey Attorney General, Bureau of Securities, 2002-2005. Ethan received his B.A. from The University of Maryland, College Park, in 1998. He received his J.D. from New York Law School in 2002.
Matthew Dunn is a member of Carter Ledyard’s Litigation Department. He represents clients in complex litigation matters, including general commercial litigation, breach of contract and commercial tort litigation, employment disputes and restrictive covenant litigation, maritime litigation, bankruptcy litigation, trust and estates litigation, and eminent domain/condemnation litigation. Matt has represented clients in state and federal courts, in FINRA and international arbitrations, and in connection with government agency investigations. He also has extensive experience advising on electronic discovery issues. Matt received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1995. He received his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark in 2003 where he was Articles Editor of the Rutgers Law Review.
