CARTER LEDYARD & MILBURN LLP NAMES YORAM KEINAN CHAIR OF TAX DEPARTMENT 

NEW YORK, NY (June 3, 2014) – Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP (www.clm.com) is pleased to announce that the firm’s Executive Committee has named Yoram Keinan as chair of its Tax Department effective May 1, 2014. The firm is grateful to Howard J. Barnet, Jr., the former chair of the department for the past eight years, who is retiring.
 
Yoram Keinan has significant experience in both domestic and international tax law. His practice focuses on the taxation of financial products and institutions. He regularly advises a number of multinational companies, global banks and investment firms. Mr. Keinan has several academic degrees in the United States and Israel. He received his I.T.P., in International Taxation from Harvard Law School in 2000, LL.M. from University of Michigan Law School in 2001, M.P.A. in International Taxation, Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2001 and his J.S.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2002. In Israel, he received his B.A. and LL. B. degrees from Tel Aviv University in 1995, LL.M. from Hebrew University School of Law and M.B.A. from Bar-Ilan University in 1998. Mr. Keinan is a member of the American Bar Association Tax Section and former chair of its Banking Committee. He is also a member of the New York Tax Club.
 
The firm’s Tax Department provides general tax planning for corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, tax-exempt organizations, individuals and estates.  Members of the Tax Department also provide sophisticated advice regarding the tax aspects of business and investment transactions and possess extensive experience in structuring business and investment transactions – including mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, recapitalizations, joint ventures, initial public offerings and other financings, to achieve tax efficiencies for its clients. These attorneys counsel clients in real estate transactions, including like-kind exchanges and condemnations. In addition, they represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service, state taxing agencies and the U.S. Tax Court and also provide tax planning for non-resident aliens and foreign corporations, including inbound investments by such persons and planning for individuals who are planning to take up temporary or permanent U.S. residence. Furthermore, the department’s attorneys also assist with forming and representing tax-exempt organizations, including planning for joint ventures with for-profit organizations and work with the firm’s Trusts & Estates Department to advise high-net-worth individuals.
