Ms. Zhang-Whitaker chairs Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP’s China Practice Group. Having been practicing law for almost two decades in large U.S. law firms, Ms. Zhang-Whitaker provides sophisticated counsel to her clients in both domestic and cross-border transactions and dispute resolution matters. She represents Fortune 500 companies, middle market enterprises, start-up ventures and high net worth individual clients in diverse legal matters, including mergers and acquisitions, securities, joint ventures, trusts & estates and general commercial transactions. She not only handles transactions ranging from small-cap venture capital financings to multi-billion dollar acquisitions, but also guides clients on regular legal issues as their outside general counsel.
Ms. Zhang-Whitaker regularly counsels domestic and international clients on a wide variety of legal matters, such as corporate finance, licensing, corporate governance, global compliance and cross-border dispute resolutions. She handles a variety of inbound and outbound matters involving China, where she assists U.S.-based clients in legal matters related to their operations and dispute resolution in China, and supports Chinese clients in a wide variety of transactional, dispute resolution and trusts & estates activities in the United States.
As a well-recognized authority in U.S. - China cross-border legal matters, Ms. Zhang-Whitaker is frequently invited by Chinese government agencies and Chinese bar associations to give presentations and seminars on key and current legal issues. She advised the Chinese National People’s Congress in connection with the revision of Chinese Contract Law and advised the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on current developments in M&A in western countries.
In addition to her private practice in large law firms, Ms. Zhang-Whitaker also has significant in-house experience with global organizations in the pharmaceuticals and insurance industries.
