Michael Shapiro Quoted in The National Law Journal on Sealed Records

White-Collar Defense partner Michael Shapiro was quoted in The National Law Journal on November 5, 2007 regarding the steps to decrease the number of sealed records in courtrooms.  The article “Sealed Records Meet Resistance” explains how judges are sealing records at an astounding rate, preventing access to everything from high-profile divorce records to product liability actions. Shapiro commented that most judges are getting it right when deciding whether to seal cases. He feels the privacy rights sometimes outweigh the right to know. “Going to court to resolve a dispute,” he said, “doesn’t mean that your entire life becomes an open book.”
