Bethlehem Steel Corporation Liquidating Trust Closes Bankruptcy Cases

Litigation partner Franklin Ciaccio recently obtained an Order of Final Decree for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation Liquidating Trust closing the bankruptcy cases of Bethlehem Steel Corporation. During his 8 ½ year representation of the Liquidating Trust, Mr. Ciaccio counseled the Liquidating Trustee of Bethlehem Steel with respect to a variety of issues concerning not only bankruptcy law, but also intellectual property, real estate, ERISA, and tax law. Prior to his representation of the Bethlehem Trust, Mr. Ciaccio counseled U.S. Bank National Association in its capacity as a member of the Bethlehem Steel Creditors’ Committee, from the inception of the Bethlehem Steel bankruptcy cases.
During a recent hearing, the Honorable Burton R. Lifland, Bankruptcy Judge of the Southern District of New York and former Chief Judge of the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the Second Circuit, acknowledged Mr. Ciaccio’s “expertise and diligence” in the case, which he described as “a very interesting, complex and convoluted matter.” Mr. Ciaccio was assisted by partner Alan Lewis, counsel Patricia Matzye and associates Leonardo Trivigno, Theodore Y. McDonough, Michael H. Bauscher, and Andriy R. Pazuniak.
