Carter Ledyard Partner Steven Paul McSloy Welcomes Navajo Nation Officials

Corporate partner Steven Paul McSloy recently welcomed six Delegates of the Navajo Nation Tribal Council, including the Speaker of the Council, to his class on Native American Law at Columbia Law School, where McSloy is a Lecturer on Law. The Council Delegates were in New York in connection with the Navajo Nation’s historic $53 million bond issuance in November.   McSloy, who has taught the class at Columbia Law School for several years, aimed to give the law students direct insight into the workings of a tribal government and its continuing struggles to maintain and expand its sovereignty. The Delegates spoke to the students about economic development, tribal court jurisdiction, housing challenges on the Navajo reservation and other matters.    Earlier in the semester the President and the Attorney General of the Navajo Nation visited the class as well.
