JUDITH A. LOCKHART NAMED CHAIR OF INTERNATIONAL LEGAL ALLIANCE MERITAS
MINNEAPOLIS (May 26, 2011) — Meritas, a global alliance of business law firms, announces that Judith A. Lockhart has been elected as the organization’s Board Chairman. Representing more than 7,000 lawyers, Meritas has 173 business law firms located in 73 countries and 238 markets around the world.
Lockhart will take over as Chair of the Meritas Board of Directors in May 2011. Prior to being named Chairman, Lockhart served as a member on the Meritas Board of Directors and the Executive Committee for six years. Lockhart will succeed current Meritas chair Jean-Paul Bignon of Bignon Lebray & Associés, Paris, France.
“Judy has been a leader in developing Meritas’ vision and global strategy,” said Tanna Moore, President and CEO of Meritas. “She will be an exceptional advocate for Meritas throughout the world.”
Lockhart is currently Managing Partner at New York City-based Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP, a Meritas member firm since 2005. Lockhart focuses on general commercial litigation and arbitration and employment law.

Lockhart received her JD from Pace University School of Law in 1985 (cum laude) after receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1983 from Pace University. She is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the American Bar Association and the Federal Bar Council. Lockhart received the Pace University School of Law’s Distinguished Service Award in 2006 and was honored by the New York County Lawyers’ Association as an Outstanding Women of the Bar in 2004.
