On February 28, 2018, Carter Ledyard Partner Pamela Mann and Associate Jeremy Steckel each spoke at the annual Advising Nonprofit Organizations conference at Pracitising Law Institute in midtown Manhattan. Ms. Mann, who organized and chaired the conference, presented a session called “Private Foundations: Basic Principles and New Developments,” covering legal principles and developments in the areas of self-dealing, foreign grant-making, program-related investments, and impact investing. Mr. Steckel, along with Sean Delany, Executive Director of Lawyers Alliance for New York, presented a session called “Balancing Public and Private Interests in Pay for Success Programs: Should We Care About the Private Benefit Doctrine?”, also the title of their paper to be published in March of 2018 in the NYU Journal of Law & Business. Ms. Mann has chaired this conference since 1998, bringing together legal experts to speak about a wide range of issues of concern to nonprofit organizations.
