Carter Ledyard client Kaneka Corporation was awarded a default judgment against a Chinese importer that Kaneka accused was infringing its patent on a novel method of producing the nutritional supplement Ubiquinol. Judge Margo Brody of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York awarded a default judgment against accused infringer PureStar Chem Enterprise Co., Ltd. after PureStar failed to respond to Kaneka’s complaint and oppose Kaneka’s motion for a default judgment. Judge Brody also entered a permanent injunction prohibiting PureStar from further infringement of Kaneka’s patent.
