Carter Ledyard Honors Black History Month

March 2, 2020/less than a minute

On February 20th, in honor of Black History Month, Carter Ledyard’s Diversity Committee hosted Ranger Eliza Rasmussen from the National Park Service for an informative presentation and discussion detailing the discovery and history of the African Burial Ground in New York City, the nation’s earliest and largest African burial ground rediscovered in the United States, which dates from the 1630s to 1795. The African Burial Ground, named a National Monument in 1993, illustrates the historic role slavery played in building New York. The Monument can be visited in Lower Manhattan at Broadway and Duane Street. For more information, visit http://www.nps.gov/afbg.
