On October 5, 2016, Carter Ledyard litigation partner G. Michael Bellinger served as an associate justice at the Office of the Appellate Defender’s 23rd Annual Fundraiser: “First Monday in October.” The program featured a hypothetical Supreme Court case, Apple, Inc. v. F.B.I., concerning law enforcement’s authority to compel Apple to unlock iPhone’s belonging to their customers. The mock Supreme Court heard spirited arguments on both sides that confronted constitutional issues of privacy in the digital age. Mr. Bellinger presided over the court, along with eight other practitioners, including former Chief Justice of the New York State Court of Appeals, Honorable Jonathan Lippman. The event was attended by about 500 judges, lawyers, and guests.
