Judith Wallace Discusses Stolen Art and Ownership Disputes on Pop! Goes the Legal

May 13, 2026/less than a minute

Carter Ledyard partner and Chair of the Firm’s Art Law practice, Judith Wallace, recently joined the Pop! Goes the Legal podcast for an episode exploring the complex legal issues surrounding stolen art.

In “The Art of the Heist: Who Really Owns Stolen Masterpieces?,” Judith discusses how stolen works of art resurface, why good-faith buyers can still lose ownership, and the challenges of establishing provenance in the absence of a centralized title system. The conversation also examines statutes of limitations, due diligence failures, and the legal battles that can continue for years or even decades after a theft.
