Stephanie R. Springer

I am passionate about the nonprofit sector and have worked for a variety of nonprofits both on the legal and programmatic side. I am committed to providing excellent legal service to allow my clients to best achieve their missions.

Stephanie is an associate in the tax-exempt organizations practice. Her experience includes working with private foundations, public charities, and social welfare organizations on a range of legal matters ranging from formation to mergers.

Prior to joining Carter Ledyard, she served as a Legal Fellow at the Open Society Foundations, where she worked on private foundation governance issues and compliance with international grantmaking rules.

Negotiated a PRI loan from a large international foundation to finance client’s purchase and distribution of free or low-cost nasal naloxone to harm-reduction groups in order to reduce opioid overdoses.
Advised a related group of family foundations on compliance with the private foundation excess business holdings rules.
Provided guidance on public charity qualifications for governmental units and their affiliated entities to a project created by New York City and state officials.
Assisted clients in assuming effective control of an organization in financial straits via the establishment of a single member structure and majority board control.
